Additional Data Blocks

In response to popular demand we are excited to announce that you can now purchase additional ‘data blocks'.

At any time during your billing month you can now purchase an additional 'data block' for the remainder of that billing cycle. Data blocks can be purchased by calling us. We offer several payment options and there is no limit to the number of data blocks you can buy.

If you don't want to purchase any additional data once you've used your monthly data allowance, we'll just ease you back to dial-up speeds and you won't have to pay anything extra.

How much does additional data cost?

Below is our data block charge rates. Note: You are only able to purchase data blocks relative to your current plan speed.

How do I know when I have reached my data cap?

An email will be sent to your registered email address when you have used 50%, 80% and 100% of your plan's data cap.

How it works

UberNetworks uses wireless technology that provides an alternative to cable, DSL broadband and dial up.

A key advantage of wireless technology is its ability to provide higher speed connections over a wider distance, enabling broadband internet access.

We install a small antenna on the roof of your home. The antenna communicates with our nearest repeater site to send and receive data.

It is not affected by adverse weather, nor is it prone to interference from electric fences like traditional phone lines.

Additionally, our service works on managed infrastructure which means any faults, errors and outages are automatically reported to our technicians, allowing for a swift response that results in less downtime for you.

Details

UberNetworks uses flat-panel antennas that contain all the hardware necessary to connect to our network. The antenna is positioned on your property, usually on the roof, to have direct line of sight with one of our transmitters. Once we have attained a stable signal we fix the mount and permanently attach the antenna.

A network cable is then run from the antenna to power equipment we provide, which requires a connection to a power source in your home. Another cable is then run to a network card in your computer.

FAQ

How fast is 2Mbit/sec?

Very! But in specific terms, 2Mbit/sec is 256 kilobytes per second, OR about 45 times faster than dial up's best speed (closer to 100 times faster if you're rural). More generally put, at 2Mbit/sec you could download an average music file every 20 seconds. On dial up you would expect to download the same file in roughly 20 minutes. That's quite a time saver!

Ok, but how does this compare to broadband in the city?

Quite favourably. Broadband in the city is generally marketed either as 3.5Mbits/sec OR as fast as your line can go. In reality few users are lucky to get more than 2Mbits/sec out of these plans, with the vast majority struggling to get more than 1Mbit/sec. If you have broadband currently and are wondering what speeds you get, you can run a speed test here.

On our network you will get around 2100kbits download and upload, or 250 Kilobytes per second.

What does a 'standard installation' include?

• UberNetworks Wireless Equipment (Includes Antenna / Router, POE Injector & Power Supply)
• Standard antenna mast & stays to fix the antenna to roof or side of the house
• A single Cat5 cable up to 40m long from to connect our antenna to power equipment which will be installed near your computer
• A single Cat5 cable up to 3m long to go between our power equipment and your computer
• Configuration and testing of your computer to use our internet and, if required, email.

Things that may incur extra charges are:

• No line of sight to our transmitter, requiring us to mount the equipment elsewhere on the property. Other locations may include a shed or garage, on a pole in a paddock or yard, we may even have to set up another smaller repeater to get access to our service.
• Unusually long cable runs (over 40m)
• Some concrete homes with no cable access or floor / ceiling cavities
• Multiple computers requiring access to the one Internet connection (including supplying and configuring networking hardware on behalf of the customer)
• Computer problems that make configuration difficult (such as viruses, missing hardware drivers, missing hardware)

Note: We cannot run cables inside walls unless a drawstring is already in place.

Charge Rates

Our charge-out rate is $60 per hour plus materials for any installations that fall outside of our standard installation criteria. Our technician will always let you know th likely cost before commencing any work.
